Collection includes a broadside and letter sent by Union soldier James Himrod to his niece. The letter describes Thanksgiving
Day festivities at Fort Pulaski. After describing the food and festivities, he comments on the scandalous behavior of some
of the officers and offers his opinion of commanding Generals McClellan and Burnside. Also included is a broadside for the
Grand Thanksgiving Fete and Festival, November 27th, 1862.

The collection consists of letters from the Dickey and Reynolds brothers to Anna or William Dickey, and other family papers.
The letters begin in 1861 on the Georgia coast as the soldiers go from Brunswick, Sapelo Island, Darien, and Savannah, and
write from such places as Fort Tattnall, Mackay's Point, Fort Jackson, Causten's Bluff, Camp Millen and Camp Palmyra, and
mention the firing on Fort Pulaski in April 1862. The letters describe details of the battles, health of the soldiers, camp
life, and concern for families and farms at home.

Colonel Olmstead writes to Captain E. P. Lawton to inform him that Major General David Hamlin of the Federal Army sent a communication
demanding the immediate surrender of Fort Pulaski to the forces of the United States at Tybee Island. Olmstead informs Hamlin
that he sent word he would not surrender, and shortly thereafer the Fort came under attack, which continued throughout the
night. Cut off from relief, Olmstead eventually yields the fort.
